A Few Important Things

It was great to see so many of your faces yesterday at the Meet and Greet! I am looking forward to a fantastic year with the new members of 4J. I am hoping to see everyone for Curriculum Night on September 13th, but until then there are a few things I wanted to share with you. As you know, Thursday is the first day of school! The students will be lining up on the blacktop behind the school. I'll be carrying a blue 4J sign so that you can easily find our class. After Mrs. Howicz’s opening ceremonies, the students will come upstairs and we'll get to work! Even though the weather has been somewhat mild lately, our classroom is still pretty hot. Please make sure that your child packs a water bottle (water only, please!), so that he/she can stay hydrated. The students will all be coming home on Thursday with a Brookdale take-home folder and an assignment notebook. You will see a few important papers in the folder, including a copy of the snack policy and a 4J Read Aloud schedule. The assignment notebook will travel back and forth with your child every day. Please take the time each evening to look over the reminders and assignments that will be written in the notebook, and then sign or initial for that day. As they did last year, the assignment notebooks have a place for the students to check which color they ended the day on (blue - went above and beyond in some way, green - did exactly what they needed to, yellow - received a warning, red - received a discipline referral), so you can easily track their behavior. There is not an official snack time in fourth grade, however, we allow the students to eat a healthy snack at any point throughout the day. More about snack will be discussed at Curriculum Night (September 13th). Again, I am very much looking forward to the upcoming school year, and hope that you and your child are too! Please feel free to contact me with any questions or comments. See you on Thursday! Ms. James
